The latest addition to the Protrek brand of outdoor watches is the Protrek Satellite Navi that comes with built-in receiver that picks up signals from Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites and shows your current location on the display.
This makes the Protrek Satellite Navi just the thing for mountain climbers, anglers, and anyone else who challenges the great outdoors. The blend of advanced GPS capabilities with wristwatch ease of operation and portability is made possible by a number of new innovations. "Multi shield layer" (MSL) construction, enables alternative stacking of circuits and shield layers, which save space.
New high-density mounting technology was developed to pack the required chips into the minimum amount of space. A new low-power consumption drive circuit also contributes to a compact design.
Functions of the Protrek Satellite Navi include a Positioning Feature that displays your current latitude and longitude, a GPS Navigation Feature that graphically shows the direction and distance to your destination, Landmark Memory for storage of locations and waypoints, and much more.
Casio's own original chip design creates a very low voltage drive circuit that provides more than 720one-shot GPS measurements on a single CR2 lithium battery. Battery replacement is quick and easy, and EEPROM is used for data storage so data is not lost when the battery is replaced.
Almanac data from GPS satellites is stored in the EEPROM of the watch, which greatly reduces the time required for GPS measurements, even following battery replacement.
A Quick Mode keeps the measurement circuit in standby and produces measurements in as little as four seconds.
